Moroccan police arrested today, Thursday May 15 2008, around three o’clock in the afternoon, three Sahrawi citizens at a checkpoint at the northern entrance of the town of El-Ayoune.
Mr. Lehbib Elballal HADDA (former victim of enforced disappearance), his brother Mr. Hamma Elballal HADDA (one of the survivors of the secret Moroccan prison of Kalaat Megounat, where he spent almost fifteen years between 1976 and 1991) and his sister, Mrs. Akhanath Elballal HADDI, aboard a car traveling north after a visit to their family in El-Ayoune, when police arrested them at a checkpoint and transferred them to the headquarters of the Wilaya of the police of El-Ayoune, where they remain in detention.
It is likely that the reason for the arrest of these three brothers is their recent visit to Mauritania, a few days ago, in addition to the kinship with Mr. Ahmed BATAL, a former Information Minister of the Polisario Front. And until now none has yet been revealed about the fate of these three brothers.
