Wave of detention continues to targets Sahrawi youth

The Moroccan security forces continue their wave of arrests targeted mostly against young Sahrawis between 12 and 17 years. Sahrawis youths Mr. Najem ELGARHI, Mr. Youssef BAIBA, Mr. Sidi CHRIF, Edeyou ERGUIBI, Larbi ZALMALA, Sid Ahmed ELGARHI and Mahmoud ELMOUSSAOUI, were detained Saturday, 21 April 2007, at 20h00 GMT, following their participation in a demonstration. They were released only Sunday, 22 April 2007, at 19h00 GMT. These young Sahrawis confirmed that they underwent violent interrogations violent interrogations.

Similarly, Sahrawi youths Mr. Abdelfatah BAGANNA, Rachid ELGARHI and another young Sahrawi (named Omar), were detained Sunday, 22 April 2007, at 20h00 GMT, and have also undergone violent interrogations. Mr. Abdelfatah BAGANNA and Omar were released late in the night, about midnight thirty, whereas Mr. Rachid ELGARHI (see photos), who had been savagely beaten, was kept in the center of the police force for some time.
