Morocco blocks another Western Saharan activist from traveling abroad

ASVDH has just had telephone contact with Mr Abderahman Bougarfa, a 53 year-old former Sahrawi political prisoner, who was detained at the Moroccan airport of Mohamed V in Casablanca between 14:00 – 17:30 on 20 November 2009.

Moroccan authorities there, including Commissioner Hamid Bahri, interrogated him. His passport, ticket and other travel documents were confiscated.

Mr Bougarfa was en route to Barcelona, Spain, where he is scheduled to attend an international meeting on Western Sahara.

ASVDH denounces Morocco’s recent restrictions placed upon the movement of Western Saharan activists and urgently appeals the UN to in order to assume its responsibility to protect the Western Sahara in view of its international legal status.
