Salka Dahane appears in Morocco court, sentenced to one month served

Ms. Salka Dahane 46 years old, has appeared before the Moroccan Court of Appeal in Salé, north of Rabat, on 24 November 2009 at 09:00.

Ms. Salka Dahane is the sister of Brahim Dahane, ASVDH President, who is currently jailed in Salé prison with a group of human rights defenders since 08 October 2009.

Moroccan authorities arrested Salka as she was visiting Brahim in prison, likely for political reasons related to her brother’s situation. In court, she was supported by the lawyer, Mr. AJLA Shawki, his family and a group of Sahrawi students.

Around 15:30 the court pronounced its sentence, which reducing the penalty to one month

As of today, Ms. Salka has served her sentence and was released tonight.

ASVDH takes this opportunity to congratulate her warmly and wish her a safe return to her 8 children.

In other news, two Sahrawi political prisoners have appeared today, Wednesday, November 25 before the appeals court in El-Aaiun, Western Sahara, in the presence of the Spanish lawyer Mr. Andres Martinez Garcia, observer for the Badajos instance

The court acquitted and freed the Sahrawi political prisoner Hassana Alouat. Then it postponed the trial of Sahrawi political prisoner Sheikh Amidane until 2 December 2009.

ASVDH recalls that the two Sahrawi students detained in Okasha prison in Casablanca, In the background of their political positions on the Western Sahara conflict, will appear before the Court of Appeal in the same city tomorrow, Thursday, 26 November 2009.
