Djimi El-Ghalia
Moroccan authorities came to the house of ASVDH Vice President Djimi El-Ghalia on Sunday, 6 December 2009, around 12:00, warning her against holding a planned meeting between the children of Ms. Aminatou Haidar, her sister and the Spanish media group. Moroccan authorities indicated that this meeting was prohibited by El Wali (Governor) of El Aaiun.
According to Mrs El-Ghalia: ‘Immediately after the arrival of the press and the family of Ms. Haidar, they informed me that the meeting is prohibited by order of the Moroccan authorities. In that subject, I had given my statement to the press before various security services came to my house to ban the group of media claiming that they did not have authorization.’
ASVDH launches an urgent appeal to the international NGOs to ensure the physical and moral integrity of the children of the human rights defender, Ms. Haidar, so they can live their normal childhood life.
ASVDH also launches an urgent appeal to the UN, the AU, international organizations, to put pressure on the Moroccan and Spanish states to put an end to the suffering of our colleague Aminatou Haidar, given the hunger strike conducted for 19 days and her deteriorating health, day after day, and they respond to her desire, unconditional return to her country and to her children.
