Brahim SABBAR, Elkainan and Saleh HADDI
Brahim SABBAR, Secretary-General of ASVDH, former Sahrawi political prisoner Sidi Mohammed Mahmoud HADDI (Elkainan), and his brother, Saleh HADDI, were sentenced by the court of first instance in El-Ayoune, Moroccan occupied Western Sahara, for charges of aggression against a police officer.
-Mr. Sabbar received two years
-ElKainan recived three years
-Mr Saleh Haddi received one year
These judgements reveal a Moroccan policy aimed at stifling respect for human rights in Western Sahara and are met with silence from the international community.
These political prisoners were arrested 17 June 2006 and then tortured.
Defence lawyers said that the prisoners had information that proved the case against them false. Mr Sabbar claims that he never saw the “procès verbaux†he reported refused to sign. The sister of Elkainan and Saleh Haddi was quoted in their procès verbaux even though she is in Mauritania.
The speed with which they were tried is also curious, considering that the murders of Hamdi LEMBARKI and Sheik ABBA have not been held to account, and neither has the person who set Salek SAAIDI on fire. Not to mention the hundreds of complaints from Sahrawis against Moroccan officials and security forces accused of torture on file with the Moroccan General Prosecutor in El Ayoune.
