Place: Moroccan occupied El-Ayoune and vicinity

On 8 June 2006, members of the Moroccan Royal Gendarmerie abducted Sahrawi citizen Mahmoud ouel Brahim oueld Mohammed FREIK. Mr Freik was taken to 50 km outside of El-Ayoune around 23h GMT in a Gendarmerie Jeep to their barracks where he spent three days blindfold, undergoing intense interrogation. He was then taken to an unknown destination where he was tortured with electric shocks, beatings, verbally abused and forced to breath in chemical laden water. Mr Freik was held there incommunicado until 14 July. He intends to launch a complaint with the General Prosecutor.
That there are already hundreds of such uninvestigated complains already on file with that office confirms Morocco’s discriminatory practices towards the Sahrawis by both security forces and judicial authorities.
This illegal acts against Mr Freik is set in the context of Moroccan repression, demonstrating that Morocco’s election to the UN human rights council is far from being deserved.
