Update on Sahrawi students in Rabat

The Sahrawi students arrested recently in Rabat, appeared, today, Tuesday June 05, 2007, before the court of first authority of Rabat. The court decided to defer the trial to June 12, 2007. These students, whose situation is very alarming, following the ill treatment that they have endured during the police custody, were supprted, during this hearing, by international observers, in particular, Mrs. Inès MIRANDA and Mrs. Lola, from Spain, just as Sahrawi lawyers and other lawyers of the AMDH (Moroccan Association of the Human Rights).

We point out that this lawsuit proceeded under extraordinary conditions and under a strong presence of various bodies of Moroccan secrity. We, also, point out that these nine students are accused of armed assembly and destruction of the public goods. The court decided to defer the judgement to Tuesday May 29, 2007.
