18 Oct 2007 | Information/Update

El-Ayoune – Western Sahara

Three young Sahrawis were recently incarcerated in the Black Prison of El-Ayoune. They are: the former Sahrawi ex-prisoners political Mr. Abdessalama LOUMADI, Mr. Bachri Mohamed Ahmed Hamdi and Mr. Hassan DAH. We recall that these three Sahrawi political prisoners had been arrested on October 10, 2007, and had suffered many forms of torture at the Moroccan police station. Mr. LOUMADI, who was arrested on October 10 in the precincts of the court while he and his father lodged a complaint against the Moroccan repressive forces who had violated their house on the same day, has been subjected to horrible and inhumane acts and has been violated with a bottle several times, according to the testimony of his mother, who visited him. Mr. LOUMADI also called for a medical examination to confirm this savage aggression to which he was subjected. The other two young Sahrawis state also to have suffered horrific forms of torture.

These three young Sahrawis announced, once incarcerated, that they are starting a hunger strike indefinitely. The other Saharawi political detainees, among them, Mr. Brahim SABBAR, will launch a hunger strike of 48 hours in solidarity with the three young Sahrawis, starting from tomorrow October 19.
