Moroccan forces rampage Smara

Victim of Moroccan abuse in Smara
Shortly after the visit of the human rights NGO “Front Line” to the cities of Smara and El-Ayoune in the Moroccan occupied Western Sahara, the Moroccan authorities launched a massive campaign against the Sahrawi human rights activists and young Sahrawis.

In Smara on Sunday, 21 September 2008, the youth organized a peaceful demonstration demanding the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination. The Moroccan security services reacted violently, launching a widespread campaign of arbitrary arrests and raiding the homes of a large number of Sahrawi citizens, including the Sahrawi human rights activist Mr. Hamadi Nassiri, member of the Sahrawi Committee for the Defence of Human Rights.

The Sahrawi youth, Mr. Brahim Cheikhi (born 1988) was incarcerated in the Black Prison at El-Ayoune, and is currently in the juvenile wing (minors), while Moroccan police is still hunting for a number of other young people.
